The Obama administration and the Congress are in a headlong rush to push the country over the fiscal tipping point. The fiscal tipping point is the point where the interest that premium bond buyers are demanding to compensate them for the risk of default and/or accelerating inflation causes the total interest cost to be so high that the government is borrowing just to pay the interest. This is equivalent to a family being so far in debt that it is borrowing just to pay the interest on its mortgage, credit cards, etc.

The proposed health care plan and the environmental cap-and-trade scheme will add trillions of dollars to the U.S. debt over the next few years and, in all likelihood, soon will drive the total debt burden to well over 100 percent of GDP. Even if the administration were to tax the "rich" at 100 percent of their incomes, there would still not be enough money to pay for all of these spending schemes.

The following should be known to most members of Congress. The size of the U.S. government is already well over the welfare and economic growth-maximizing rate. Taxes on upper-income Americans are well above the revenue-maximizing rate. Thus, for those in the political class to further increase the size of government and government debt as a percentage of GDP is grossly irresponsible. It is almost as if they had a death wish for the country.

I'm starting to believe it may be the Cloward-Piven strategy of manufacturing crises to overwhelm the government to bring about Socialist change in action.  When I first heard about this I laughed.  Now, it makes sense.  I am becoming a conspiratorial nutjob.  Save me!

“There are 100 senators here and I don’t know that there’s a senator that doesn’t have something in this bill that isn’t important to them,” Reid said. “If they don’t have something in it important to them then it doesn’t speak well of them.”

He likened the legislation to the defense bill, which is thick with earmarks and other provisions benefiting individual members and even private corporations.

Washington and its allies suspect Iran is secretly using its nuclear energy program to develop nuclear weapons, but Tehran says it is enriching uranium only to generate electricity.

Why the Swiss Were Right to Prohibit Construction of Minarets

An interesting op-ed via Pajamas Media from a Norwegian who tries to explain the logic behind the ban.  The crux of the argument is that the Swiss people have looked into who is behind the minaret push, and what Islam means to a secular society.  The radical aspects of a political system that also serves as a religion is very frightening to a lot of people.  And in the privacy of a ballot box, they can finally express those fears without being directly ridiculed by the deniers who may not have the same understanding of the situation. 

To put it bluntly, a mosque with minarets is not the equivalent of a church with a spire. Why? Because Europe’s churches have no political agenda, and because they aren’t obsessed with the painstaking study of ancient “divine” laws that are consistently placed above secular law.

It is precisely this disagreeable aspect of Islam, in contrast with Christianity, that I think we would profit by discussing openly and honestly. Because if I could be sure that a Muslim congregation (with or without its own minaret, even though the minaret adds an extra dose of religio-political power) was founded on the same freedom-based values as, say, the Norwegian state church, and that any “struggle” involving that community was limited to arguments about things like same-sex marriage and whether Muhammed was born of a virgin, they could build as many minarets in my neighborhood as they wanted –  because in that case Islam would not represent a challenge to Norwegian liberty and democracy. But unfortunately Islam does represent a challenge. Therefore I pose this challenge to the elite of my country: Of the over 100 Muslim congregations in Norway, name one that will forever fight tooth and nail against sharia and for a secular Norway. If such a faith community exists, it’s doing a very good job of keeping itself hidden.

The attack took place on October 25. A female terrorist in her 20s pulled out a knife she had been hiding in her clothes and stabbed one of the security guard at the checkpoint in his lower abdomen.

It's just so predictable.  There are hundreds of mechanisms to improve health care that wouldn't cost anyone a single cent.  But the Democrats don't want that.  All they want is a single payer system which will cost trillions.  Yes, trillions.  Some of it directly from government spending (your tax money), some through additional taxes and fees (your tax money) and still other money by taxing health care providers (thus a pass through tax to you).  Did you ever think that one of the reasons that Europe and others have a socialized system?  Even though it's a complete failure, they think they can afford to do it because the U.S. is funding their military budgets.  We spend over billions, so others don't really have to.  They have extra money to piss away on bad ideas.  We do NOT.

For millions of American families, the cost of health insurance premiums will increase $2,100 a year under the Democratic health care bill now being debated in the U.S. Senate.

That’s according to an analysis conducted by the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) and the staff of the Joint Committee on Taxation (JTO). 

The CBO-JCT analysis of Sen. Harry Reid’s bill found that people buying their own health insurance policies on government-run exchanges – as they will be required to do if they lack coverage through work -- will see their premiums increase by up to 13 percent in 2016, the year in which the Senate bill takes full effect.

Climategate: Follow the Money

Now this is the kind of stuff that I like.  This is what news journalists are supposed to do!  They see an lie and they try to uncover the who, where and why behind it. 

Climate change researchers must believe in the reality of global warming just as a priest must believe in the existence of God.

But the deeper question is why the scientists behaved this way to begin with, especially since the science behind man-made global warming is said to be firmly settled. To answer the question, it helps to turn the alarmists' follow-the-money methods right back at them.

Consider the case of Phil Jones, the director of the CRU and the man at the heart of climategate. According to one of the documents hacked from his center, between 2000 and 2006 Mr. Jones was the recipient (or co-recipient) of some $19 million worth of research grants, a sixfold increase over what he'd been awarded in the 1990s.

Why did the money pour in so quickly? Because the climate alarm kept ringing so loudly: The louder the alarm, the greater the sums. And who better to ring it than people like Mr. Jones, one of its likeliest beneficiaries?


Thus, the European Commission's most recent appropriation for climate research comes to nearly $3 billion, and that's not counting funds from the EU's member governments. In the U.S., the House intends to spend $1.3 billion on NASA's climate efforts, $400 million on NOAA's, and another $300 million for the National Science Foundation. The states also have a piece of the action, with California—apparently not feeling bankrupt enough—devoting $600 million to their own climate initiative. In Australia, alarmists have their own Department of Climate Change at their funding disposal.

Climategate: Imminent Demise of Glaciers Due to … a Typo!

The IPCC has been claiming Himalayan glaciers could be gone by 2035. The research paper they used concluded 2350.

According to Prof Graham Cogley (Trent University, Ontario), a short article on the future of glaciers by a Russian scientist (Kotlyakov, V.M., 1996, The future of glaciers under the expected climate warming, 61-66, in Kotlyakov, V.M., ed., 1996, Variations of Snow and Ice in the Past and at Present on a Global and Regional Scale, Technical Documents in Hydrology, 1. UNESCO, Paris (IHP-IV Project H-4.1). 78p estimates 2350 as the year for disappearance of glaciers, but the IPCC authors misread 2350 as 2035 in the Official IPCC documents, WGII 2007 p. 493!

Onyango, the half sister of Obama's late father, says she has exiled herself from the family after attending Obama's inauguration because she didn't want to become fodder for his foes. Obama and his family have not reached out to her either, she said.

"I loved President Bush," Onyango said while moving toward a framed photo of Bush and his wife standing with Barack and Michelle Obama at the White House on inauguration day. "He is my No. 1 man in my life because he helped me when I really needed that help." [Oddly enough, her nephew wasn't there to help her with her medical bills and basic needs.  He did get a lovely house in Hyde Park though].

Move over Switzerland...you have awakened much of the rest of Europe.  I don't know if the UK or France will have the balls, but it looks like the Danish and Dutch think it was a pretty good idea to ban minarets.  Maybe they'll argue that minarets change the architectural integrity of their cities.  But honestly, they're just terrified of watching their country completely change demographically before their eyes.
